Til Death Do Me Part

29 August 2021

ritual and marriage

 Private residence, Perth/Boorloo, Australia

A group of people stand in a circle around a person with a purple dress, pink hair and antlers in a room with a boldly patterned orange and red carpet.

Til Death Do Me Part was a ritual performance and marriage to myself, performed at my home in Perth/Boorloo, Australia just before leaving the country. Friends gathered as witnesses and co-performers.

The performance followed the story of the union of a deer and a witch — the gentle and naive and the powerful and wise — combining ceremony and spell-work with live and recorded music, handmade costumes and talismans, participatory actions and reflections, ritualistic burning, and collective singing and screaming. It was created with the support of theatre-makers Michelle Hall (dramaturg) and Noemie Huttner-Koros (performer).

This piece inspired a future collaboration, supporting artist Lillian Pennypacker in developing her own custom marriage to herself.
