So this will be my last goodbye explores the power of ritual to seed change and the ways in which domestic objects can be vessels for memories and emotions.
The piece features a six-minute video with sound of a ritual for letting go performed in my living room and using my coffee table as a scrying tool.
In the installation, the video of the ritual is projected onto the glass surface of the coffee table, which casts a projection of the piece onto the opposite wall. I covered the back surface of the glass with fabric, cutting out a small hole, which throws a small circle of the video on the far wall. A series of photographs of women across generations in my family are also projected onto the base of the table, suggesting the ways in which attachment wounds and behavior are inherited across generations.
