An Echo, A Haunting is a live performance built from a series of personal emails, almost entirely redacted except for references to Yoko Ono. Transformed into a 34-foot-long hand-dyed and silkscreened fabric scroll, the emails become a physical archive, a costume, and a musical score.
The emails date from a period 14 years ago when Hyde was falling in love with her ex-husband, and document the couple's shared love and obsession with Ono's creative work. The scroll also serves as the work's score: a series of songs by Ono mentioned in the emails and sung from memory by Hyde.
The work explores the distortions and fragmentations of memory, language, and reality. It considers the the body and objects as living archives, as sites of their own memories and knowledge.
